Hi I’m going to write about a thing I want to invent. It’s called a tofu pie. It’s a pie with tofu stuffed in it. I got the idea because I like tofu and pie. I like every type of pie and every type of tofu. I like tofu even more then pie because I’m a vegetarian. My favorite pie is apple. I also like blueberry. I can’t think of what type of tofu I like because I like all of them the same. Did you know that all tofu starts off as white and has no flavor at first?

Over the Presidents' Day weekend, we had 4 days off from SCHOOL!!!!!!! I went to Stowe, VT. On the ride up on Thursday we watched 2 movies. I don’t remember what they were called. Here is what I did on the other days:
Friday – I snowboarded on a trail named Cliff Trail. There are a lot of jumps on that trail. Saturday- I did another trail named Switchback. I went in some woods. It was long and fun. Sunday – We took a day off and went to the pool. Monday – We had a boring ride home. Alana was inspired when she studied Ruby Bridges. On her own time, she wrote a short story from the perspective of another girl who tried to integrate a school in the South. Nice work, Alana!
Changing Schools Part One Once there was a nine-year-old girl named Ava who lived in Virginia in 1962. Ava was mad at her mother. She wanted to go to another school but her mom said no. “The school you go to now is marvelous. You will get a better education there.” Ava said no. “Come to my school and see for yourself. I dare you to mama.” Ava’s mom dropped her off school the next day. “This school is not bad 1 bit. You will go to it until 8th grade”, her mom said. “No please!” Ava said crying to her mom. When Ava got in the school she was crying quietly in her head. When she went in to her classroom she had to be in the back of the class because she was black. She was actually the only black 1 at the school. All of her school supplies were bent and the white students got all good things. She was very good at reading. She was a level z. (the 8th grade level) and she was only in 4th grade! Even though Ava was so smart, the teachers didn’t treat her that fairly. She had easier homework than the other kids. The other kids threw spitballs and paper balls at her. The teacher did not care that they where doing that to her. At recess Ava had to go to the play ground for black people, but she was the only one there. All of the equipment was rusty. Ava just had to sit on the ground and wait till the end of recess. Even at the end of the day, she had to wait in a room alone when the others got picked up. Part Two Her mom picked her up and Ava asked again about changing schools. Her mom said, “Don’t even tell me one more time!” Then they had dinner. Ava asked if her mom could walk her in to her classroom. When her mom saw kids being mean she said, “I am not letting you go to the school again. I pinky promise all the way up to God.” They went to another school. It was an old building that looked like a barn with only black people. There were flies around them when they were eating outside. nThey had nothing in the school except for old stuff. Even though the school was old, Ava felt happy. She knew that someday schools would be mixed. She just didn’t want to be the first one to make it happen. It is Redmond and I'm here to tell you about drag race cars. I chose this subject because drag race cars are very fast. I love fast cars. Drag race cars are technically cars that have big tires and big engines. They also have a lot of horsepower and the owners add nitrous to make the cars go faster and be louder. You can turn any car into a drag race car. It doesn’t matter if it is a Bugatti or a junk car.
I once saw a drag race on TV that was an old GMC with giant tires on the back. It is cool because they're not your everyday car. Another name for drag race cars is funny cars. Drag racing is meant for speed and control. When they go fast enough, fire comes out of the mufflers and it's really cool and LOUD. Most of they time they use parachutes to slow them down. It is also normal for drag race cars to have wheelie bars to prevent them from flipping over. Bye bye! Blue man groop
I went to the Blue Man Group over the weekend. I really liked it and I am hoping to go again. They played at the Providence Performing Arts Center. It was really packed. I went with my dad and my sister. I was sitting right next to the speaker. You can imagine how loud it was. The blue men threw out these big amazing blow up balls that went all around the room. Too bad for me because right next to me was this tall man. Every time I thought I was going to get to touch the ball the man next to me always got it. The Blue Man Group had a lot of tubes and paint. One of the Blue Men got a camera and put it down a man's throat. We could see it on the screen. I had a lot of fun and I can’t wait to go watch them again. Please write in the comments if you or your family has been to watch the Blue Man Group. The Black Panthers were a group that wanted equal rights. They were not nice.
The Black Panthers began in 1966. They started in California. The two founders were Huey Percy Newton and Bobby Seale. The Black Panthers wanted equality in education, housing, employment and civil rights. They did some nice things. They gave food to the poor. They also provided basic health care for those who could not afford it. The head of the FBI stopped the Black Panthers. They are not as powerful today. The Black Panthers were freedom fighters. They used guns and violence.
The Black Panthers formed in 1966. They were from California. The Black Panthers founders were Huey Percy Newton and Bobby Seale. The Black Panthers wanted 4 things. They were equality in education, housing, employment and civil rights. They helped feed people who couldn’t afford to themselves. They helped give basic care to people who were sick. The FBI stopped the BPP. However, they are still around when they think there is unfairness and segregation. The Black Panthers were a freedom fighter group. They wanted equal rights.
They were formed in California. The year was 1966. The 2 men that made the Black Panthers are Huey Percy Newton and Bobby Seal. The 4 desires they wanted were mixed school, mixed neighborhoods, equal jobs, and civil rights. The Black Panthers gave food and health care to the needy. The F.B.I tried to take out the Black Panthers. They did, but then they restarted it in other parts of the country when they feel people are being disrespected. Ruby Bridges was important because she was the first student to integrate into a white school. She was actually the only 1 in her classroom with her nice loving teacher, Miss Henry.
Ruby Bridges was born on September 8, 1954 in Tylertown, Mississippi. A year later she and her family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. Ruby went to William Frantz School. It only had white people at it. Ruby got picked to go there because she was very smart. Her mom felt great that Ruby was going there because she could get a better education and get a good job when she grew up. Her dad did not want her to go there because he felt worried that bad things would happen. For the first few days, Ruby’s mom went with her to school with her. They were protected by agents who took them to school. When Ruby went to the school everybody outside just stopped and looked at her. They said mean things and held mean posters. They pretended to hurt a doll that looked like Ruby. Ruby was very smart, which is why she got in to the school. Ruby had her own teacher because no parents wanted their kids in class with her. The teacher tried to give her good things to learn in the classroom. All the other classrooms were colorful and had posters. Ruby Bridges is still alive. She is 60 years old. The Freedom Riders were a group of people who wanted fairness on busses. They wanted to sit in any seat they wanted to.
They formed in 1961. They were in the south. There were about 400 freedom riders. They started in Washington DC and went to cities like Charlotte and Montgomery. Being a Freedom Rider was very dangerous. Some busses got bombed and lit on fire. The Freedom Riders are not active anymore because people can sit wherever they wanted on the bus. |
