Dear Journal,
I am going to go whaling on a ship named The Tiger whose name is printed in golden letters. I am the first mate on the ship. The second mate has sailed with this captain before and he told me that he is very nice at times but when he sees a whale he is very strict.
The morning we left from Nantucket, I woke up and I immediately grabbed my sea chest. I packed items needed for the voyage, and went to the docks to get on the ship. When I got on I met my harpooner who is a Native American. James

Dear Journal,
Today we passed by the ship the America. They sailed out of New Bedford and are going to the Azores. I met one of their harpooners named Charlie. James

Dear Journal,
Today we were just about to go around Cape Horn. We spotted a school of whales and even though it was choppy the captain said to go out anyway. We went out on our four small boats and our harpooners were in position. My boat went first. The harpooner hit the whale with his harpoon but the whale knocked him overboard. Now we are down a harpooner and I am going to be the new harpooner/1st mate. James
